Either way
His leg was healed and he lived another twenty years. Most people who pray this novena will not get that, and it would be dishonest to end nine days implying otherwise.
What is promised is not the outcome. It is that you are not doing this alone or unwitnessed, that the ordinary means are blessed and should be used, and that whichever way this goes, the one you have been praying to went through it first and is still standing beside you.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
