Day 3

The scan, the wait, the call

Serious illness is mostly waiting. Waiting for results, for a slot, for a callback, for the number to come down. The waiting is its own affliction and nobody warns you how much of the year it takes.

Today is for the waiting rather than the disease: for the days between the test and the answer, when there is nothing to do and no way to not think about it.

Begin

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

Today’s petition

St. Peregrine, be with me in the days between the test and the answer.

Close

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
