The saint with the same diagnosis

Peregrine Laziosi was a Servite friar in fourteenth century Forli with a cancer of the leg so advanced that the surgeon scheduled an amputation for the following morning. The night before, he prayed at length in front of a crucifix in the chapter room and fell asleep there. When the surgeon arrived the leg was sound.

He is one of very few saints who had the disease people ask him about. Whatever you make of the healing, the praying all night before a surgery is a thing you can recognize.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
