Day 9

The rose in winter

Dying, Rita asked a visitor for a rose from her family's garden. It was January, and there was one.

That is the story the devotion keeps, and it is worth being careful about how it is used. It is not a promise that your impossible thing will resolve in the way you asked. It is a smaller and stranger claim: that in a season where nothing should be growing, something occasionally is, and it is worth going out to look.

Begin

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

Today’s petition

St. Rita, I am still asking, and I am going to keep looking for the rose in the wrong season.

Add your own intention here, in your own words. It is not stored anywhere.

Close

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

That closes it. Nothing about these 9 days is kept: your place is cleared and there is no record of what you asked for.
