Where patience ends

Rita's endurance is the most quoted thing about her and it is also the most misused. Her marriage was violent, and nothing in the Church's teaching asks anyone to remain in a house where they are being hurt.

If that is your situation, the faithful thing is to get safe first. In the United States the National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233, free and at any hour. Rita's prayers and that call are not in competition, and separation for safety is not a failure of this novena.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
