The lukewarm
The novena ends with the group the devotion treats as hardest: not the hostile, but the indifferent, who have no objection to any of it and no interest either.
It is worth asking on the last day whether that is a description of somebody you love, or of a stretch of your own life.
Begin
Prayed on ordinary rosary beads.
Begin: the Sign of the Cross, one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and the Apostles' Creed.
On each large bead:
Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of your dearly beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.
On each of the ten small beads:
For the sake of his sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
After five decades, three times:
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
Today’s petition
For the lukewarm, and for the part of me that has been one of them.
