Day 8

The souls in purgatory

The eighth day is for the dead who are being made ready, which is one of the most practical and least sentimental things the Church asks anyone to do.

Name your own dead today, and then name the ones nobody is praying for, which is the larger group.

Begin

Prayed on ordinary rosary beads. Begin: the Sign of the Cross, one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and the Apostles' Creed. On each large bead: Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of your dearly beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world. On each of the ten small beads: For the sake of his sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. After five decades, three times: Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Today’s petition

For my own dead by name, and for the ones no one is praying for at all.

Add your own intention here, in your own words. It is not stored anywhere.

Close

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
