Day 2

The gift of fear of the Lord

The first gift has the worst name. Fear of the Lord is not being afraid of God; it is the sense that some things are too weighty to be casual about, and that your life is one of them.

It is the gift that stops a person mid sentence. Everyone has known someone with it, usually an older person who did not argue much and could not be talked into things. It is the beginning of wisdom, which means it is not a high state to arrive at but the door you come in by.

Begin

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of thy faithful, and kindle in them the fire of thy love. V. Send forth thy Spirit, and they shall be created. R. And thou shalt renew the face of the earth. Let us pray. O God, who hast taught the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant that in the same Spirit we may be truly wise, and ever rejoice in his consolation, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Today’s petition

Come, Holy Spirit, and give me the sense to know what is holy, and to stop treating my own life as small change.

Add your own intention here, in your own words. It is not stored anywhere.

Close

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
