Prayer of St. Gertrude

Eternal Father, I offer thee the most precious blood of thy divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, for those in my own home, and within my family. Amen.

Source. This site's own rendering of a widely circulated prayer whose origin cannot be traced. It appears nowhere in St. Gertrude's writings, and the earliest anchor found on circulating leaflets is a 1936 approval line, which makes it a twentieth century leaflet devotion rather than a medieval one.

On the wording. Two things worth knowing. The attribution to St. Gertrude is not supported by her own works, and the promise attached to it on leaflets, that a fixed number of souls is released each time it is prayed, is not carried here: the Holy See has directed that leaflets making that kind of numbered promise be rejected. The prayer itself is good and is offered on its own merits.
