Prayer of St. Francis
Source. fresh site translation of the anonymous 1912 French (La Clochette); the famous English version's status is unclear, so the site carries its own translation, provenance stated plainly (not by St. Francis; French, 1912, author unknown). Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me bring love; where there is offense, pardon; where there is discord, union; where there is error, truth; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, your light; where there is sadness, joy. O Master, let me not seek so much to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, in forgetting ourselves that we find, in pardoning that we are pardoned, and in dying that we rise to eternal life. Amen. ---
